With some stunning performances from our A & B players , Lone Tree emerged victorious
against Saddle Rock/Murphy Creek on Friday, June 28. We won 10-8 at Lone Tree and 11-7
at Murphy Creek for a total win of 21-15. Congratulations to the team! The final score
was adjusted to 19 for Lone Tree and 17 for SR/MC due to a protest and adjudication by the
CGA (see below).
Our C players - usually a Lone Tree strength fell down badly gaining NO points at either
Murphy Creek or Lone Tree. Our next match is against our hated rivals South Suburban.
Experience there is essential - so let me know if you've played there a lot. The field is
wide open for C players also.
The match was protested by Murphy Creek and an additional 2 points were given to Murphy
Creek, because one of our players who won both his matches used a caddie without asking. This
was OK in the past, but with the new rules the other club should be notified. This all came
about due to a Captain's error (me) when Murphy Creek asked to use a caddie and I disallowed
it when they didn't notify us ahead of the match as specified in the rules. I wasn't aware
one of our guys had already teed off with a caddie. Unfortunate, but I think the CGA did the
best job they could. The caddie portion of the rules is really aimed towards private clubs
with professional caddies, not municipal courses who like to get youngsters involved. It will
be rewritten next year. In future matches I will ask the other team for blanket approval to
use caddies, so you can use them if you wish. It would help if you let me know. I
particularly think that younger players - sons, daughters and relatives of friends would
like the experience.
South Suburban comes up on the 26th of July at 1PM. Our C players have been particularly
weak, so if you're playing well with a high handicap let me know. Also experience at SS is
really helpful due to their funny greens. Let me know if you are available to play.
